Shorting to downgrade CID53.... Has it been tried??

"at least not only by software means" so Test Point has been tried here (Thanx for refreshing my memory on the name ;) )

If it is possible to debrand or flash on CID53 then there is no real use for test point then....

I guess if they stopped making FW and the last one released was locked then there may have been a use here for the test point...
