new w300i user debrand question

I have lurked among many forums for over a week now... and I'm still somewhat confused how to go about modding this unit.

I'm familiar with DOS, command lines, configuring gear, and flashing various gadgets that I've owned over the years... that much is pretty straightforward. What's not clear is what files can be applied to this w300i (SE US/ATT model) (I see a lot of W300 files... will they work? And, how do you tell?). Is it possible to get back to the original setup if I foul up (like making a backup)?

Can anyone give me a quick rundown... or point me to links that make it clear to someone who is totally new to cell phones and how to work with them? There's a lot that's new to me, and a fair amount of conflicting reports, resulting in me being too nervous to just try anything. However, I'd like to.

If u "fool up" and u need a "backup" u should write a new GDFS to the phone.

one item still makes me pause... a link in the tutorial directs me to pick a region and CDA, and takes me to a page showing phone models. the w300i does not show up there. this is one of the things that have held me up some... is there another model that is "equivalent" to the w300i, or close?

You may not know... but I wanted to ask. I haven't found anything that tells me.. and I didn't want to brick the thing.
