Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR)

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this technology? I noticed that Wotonserver offers enabling AMR on my W580i. I flashed using XS++ but didn't notice any options for this.

I've read a little bit about it, here's one quote:

"[AMR is] A codec offering a wide range of data rates. The philosophy behind AMR is to lower the codec rate as the interference increases and thus enabling more error correction to be applied. The AMR codec is also used to harmonize the codec standards amongst different cellular systems" (cite: mpirical.com)

Basically it adjusts the audio based on the reception, allowing for better quality audio in low reception areas and also can allow you to make calls in areas you normally might not be able to.

I'd like to try it out. How can I enable it?

write this note in your customize.xml in tpa/preset/custom:

Is there any reason I'd want to turn off AMR? Could it be switched on and off through a menu setting?

you do not need to do that because this code operates automatically
i mean if the network does not support amr it will be automaticaly switched to efr
so it is the best network codec

May I ask where you learned this? From any SE documentation? Why is AMR not included in standard SE firmware? Can you think of any downsides? Do you use it yourself?

some firmware of some se phone have it
for example w810 with general custpack has it even it is not written in custpack

EDIT#2: It does work. I just had to do a master reset , reset settings

EDIT#1: I've tried this but my in the service menu >> system info >> Configuration it still says AMR_FR EFR FR AMR_HR HR . Perhaps this doesn't work for W580i?

What I gather is that AT&T/Cingular doesn't implement AMR very well and so if you debrand, which enables AMR, you might experience poor call quality. I think I have noticed this myself.

I'm going to try this file edit and remove AMR-HR
