K800i Camera Tips and Tricks

With the R1KG001 firmware freshly flashed onto my vodaphone K800i, I discovered a trick to take pictures with flash without having the focus LED switched on. Here's how:

1. Switch to Auto profile for your phone.
2. Turn on infinity mode, (or press 4 when the camera mode is active to change to Macro subsequently Infinity)
3. Once infinity mode is on, switch back to the other profiles that uses the focus LED. Upon focus, it will not light up. However, it will flash during snapshot. This trick is good with Twilight Portrait profiles during picture taking.

I found this very useful as many friends have complained about the LED hurting their eyes in low-light conditions prior to taking a focused snapshot. :D

it's a good trick, but i think that for best picture you need to use the focus led, because you can get a blurry picture if autofocus is fooled

Any moving object that is taken by the flash within an acceptable distance of within 3-5 feet will most of the time, be clear... regardless whether you use the focus LED or not. Besides the xenon flash's effectiveness is also within 3-5 feet; the effectiveness of the flash can be extended to roughly 8-10 feet if the environment is completely dark. If you tried using focus LED on subjects further than approximately 5 feet at night, it would be useless sometimes.

If you use this trick and use the Twilight Portrait profile, in most cases your phone will capture very good and clear pictures within 3-5 feet radius as the flash helps provide brightness and clarity while the profile settings improves light conditions at night making it an all-round snapshot profile to use... instead of having to fumble around looking for the best profile and settings; only to have the special moment gone.

Just tried this out, never managed to turn it off until now, cheers
the Twilight portrait works really well with this little trick as others just dun hv the setting for enough light reaching the sensor, therefore the images with the flash on would b like 'clear faces with nothing on the backgroud'. Should spread the word around for this, thanks again

try this...

Take portrait snapshots of your friends and yourself in dim lit environments (pubs, dim lit wine and dine's) using focus LED function with flash (twilight portrait mode without infinity shot mode) and then try using the trick without the flash (twilight portrait mode with infinity shot mode) do all this within 3-5 feet or an outstretched arm's length between your camera and the subject you're snapping photo's with.

next, compare the two pictures.

to me, both are the same. you'll realize that too. why? because both serve the same function.

1. the method of using infinity is faster to take pictures with while still maintaining clarity while focus mode takes a moment to establish clarity; only then you can take a shot. In other words, using the focus takes time... while without it, you just point and shoot. Good for taking quick moment shots...
2. if you've tried the LED focus function to take your own snapshot at night, don't your eyes hurt waiting for the focus audible indicator? Try it on your friends (especially those who are sensitive to light or those who are not familiar with your camera) and see them squint and spoil moment on your phone the next time you use focus LED mode.
3. Have you tried taking pictures of people at night that move constantly? The result of using both methods are the same: whether using focus or not, both produce the same result regardless whether the result of the snapshot is blurry or clear. This is the limitation of the flash and the distance of the subject you're taking. It's got nothing to do with focus.
4. The method serves as a universal snapshot function. How many times must you tell your friends to wait while you change your cybershot profile to the one that fits, and ask them summore to wait and smile longer to focus and then take their photo?
5. Do a speedshot (slide the camera lid, wait till phototaking mode is activated and quickly snap whatever you're targetting) in LED focus, if the focus is not locked during picture taking, it will produce a blurry image but compare those times you take without relying on LED focus and you'll notice most of your pictures will be clearer than using LED focus in a hurry.

But most importantly, try it first and you'll figure out why this trick is better...
