Confusion over W380 unlock!

Have been looking re unlocking for the W380 - a PNX5230 ?? phone - some places say it "can't be unlocked with cable" - I've already tried two companies using the IMEI code idea - but without joy :/


So how is it unlocked ?
or here's my story :o)

got an unlocked W380 via eBay, from the US - to Australia (Perth)
- seemed to have poor reception so I applied a Sony Update
- (yes, hindsight is a marvelous teacher :O)


- it RELOCKED and it Portuguese!!!!


I was able to debrand it, after the re-lock event,
so at least I now have it in English :O)


Now the US seller tells me I can't apply a IMEI code
- that it ONLY unlocks via SETOOL!


Also it was advertised as previous carrier AT&T
- but later advice from the seller, Movistar Brazil
- I tried that with one company but they couldn't find a code for it


Later, I saw from the info on the box it came in,
that it could well have been "Peru - Telephonica Moviles (Movistar)"
- a different carrier than Movistar Brazil - but even using them as the carrier, there was no unlock code.
( I've already applied one unlock code -
I saw a guy on Youtube unlock one - in Portuguese! :o)
but that code didn't work with mine)
- and so I've only got 4 unlock tries left :O)

I know of another person who DID have it unlocked via code from IMEI calculation


MY options are to 1) send it back to him in the US
Or try something else!

So does anyone know what the real score is ????



Ohh I did just see on an advert for SETOOL 3, saying that CID 53's were able to be unlocked - can they??? Does the W380 fit in there?
