XS++ won't connect to my K550i

Hello, just new on here. Ok here's the setup lol I bought an old SE K550i at a car bootsale, which locked on the Orange network. I don't have/want an Orange sim, and want to unlock it so it is any network. I have downloaded XS++ from here, and also the appropriate drivers for the phone too, and they have all installed fine. Now the problem!

I open XS++, then click connect. It tells me to "TURN OFF PHONE" then "Hold C button and connect phone now!"
I do this, but it doesnt find my phone and returns this messege : "ERROR: Cannot open phone communication port. Disconnected...unplug the phone" :a003

Any ideas whats happening? Im on a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista (32 bit)

is your phone battery fully charged? is the usb connector clean?

yeah, both are fine mate

well, start up the phone, when everything is loaded and running, just connect the usb cable and see if there's a pop-up message on your phone, also did you following the tutorial completely?
