W880i - Wont Power On - 1x Long Flash + 8 x Short Flash Red LED

I have a SE W880i phone, it has worked fine for several years then I ran the battery completely dry. Then I switched it back on with low battery to make a call, but it turned itself off again. Now it won't power on or charge.
When I press the 'C' (on) button I get 1x Long Flash followed by 8 x Short Flashes of red light from an LED located below the power button.
I have tried
- leaving the battery out for 1 hour then putting it back in.
- removing the sim card + memory card
- letting it charge on the charger for several hours (when I do this I don't get the usual charging icon on the LCD screen)
- i've also cleaned the charger contact terminals
I tested the battery with a multimeter and it has 3.2V (battery is 3.6V) - I'll leave it charging overnight to see if that changes.
Checking the terminals where the phone attaches to the battery with the phone plugged into the charger, but the battery removed shows that the phone is delivering charge to the battery when the charger is plugged in.
I downloaded the service manual and there is no mention of flashing LED error codes.
I would really like to access the phone's phonebook as there are some contacts I do not want to loose and I recently got a new SIM card for my phone and lost the old SIM that had my backed up contacts.
Are there any tools that can read the phonebook via the dongle, is there away to activate a download mode and flash new firmware, assuming a flash doesn't erase the phonebook.

change battery, or you may try boosting your battery with battery illuminator to get it charged ( not to be charged for a long period, approx 10secs. @ 12v)

Run identify on there it will give you information about your phone and post the log onto here because if it is CID53 it will cost you but if it's CID52 you will be able to flash it for free. If you have Upgraded via SE update Service like alot of pillacs suggets on here it will most probs be CID53 because i had this problem and paid 7.00 through Omnius for SE and it worked a treat. Make sure you delete your IMEI number off of the log before you post it onto here. When you have posted it on here i will see where i can head you to get it fixed :a013
