Deleting Drivers and Usb Flash Drivers

    Hi.

I've been asked a few times how people can delete out old defunct drivers, corrupted drivers, drivers that belong to peripherals that no longer have and how to update the drivers if they cant be accessed so here goes.

    Windows XP

    Start

Go To Run and type in CMD

In the box type:> set devmgr_show_nonpresent_Devices=1

    Press Enter

    Type: devmgmt.msc

This should open up the device manager

    Go to the view tab

scroll down and select show hidden devices.

Now go down through your devices and all the drivers to every device you've installed should be shown. Pay particular attention to the Unknown category and Usb Categories

Highlight the devices you don't wont

    Press delete

    Done.

    Windows Vista

    Go To start

    all programs

    accessories

    Command Prompt

Right button on the mouse and scroll down to run as administrator

    Command Prompt will open

In the box type:> set devmgr_show_nonpresent_Devices=1

    Press Enter

    Type: devmgmt.msc

    Go to the view tab

scroll down and select show hidden devices.

Now go down through your devices and all the drivers to every device you've installed should be shown. Pay particular attention to the Unknown category and Usb Categories

Highlight the devices you don't wont

    Press delete

    Done.

    BE CAREFUL.

don't delete out drivers you do not know without checking them first.

Do the above at your own risk.

    Good Luck
